wintry kitchen

This morning I attempt to read poetry in a poet’s house and feel the chill of my wintry intrusion into a city I’ll never inhabit. But I place my mother’s daphne on the sill and breathe as deep as I know how. I feel the burn in my lungs and make myself a cup of tea and continue to dress for work.
